Everyone's favorite, Nico Yazawa, is a beloved angel graced upon this earth by the hands of God himself. It is said that on the day she was born, the clouds to the gate of heaven opened and shined upon this beautiful child who knew from her very first breath that she was born to be... a star. Her smile is breathtaking and her song gives hopes to millions of people around the world as they chant with her, her famous catch phrase, "Nico nico nii!!!!".
Okay. That may be an exaggeration. All of it. But Nico's clearly adorable personality can't be fake too, right? Wrong. That's also fake. Do not be fooled.
Nico Yazawa is like a onion (only cuter), and in order to understand Nico there are a lot of layers that needs to be peeled off. First, we'll be snatching that perfect idol facade and tearing it right off! From the way Nico likes to handle herself, it's clear that she focuses mainly on the superficial parts of being an idol. Acting like she's already famous, she has a tendency to walk around wearing a "disguise", going as far as to get offended if someone doesn't know what an idol is. And when µ's first formed, something Nico made everyone focus on was something called an "idol personality". While it's hardly something she keeps up 27/7 or outside of stage, it is the face she has chose for all her adoring fans to see. Taking advantage of her small, cute stature, Nico's words can go from harsh to sickeningly sweet without delay, as she puts on the personality of a happy, innocent girl here to grant smiles to the world. She even already has a catch phrase! Of course, this "personality" can be pretty fragile, and any jab from her friends can shatter her smile pretty quickly into a scowl. On a side notes she also has a tendency of saying her catchphrase in a cute tone if she's nervous or wants to attempt to get away with something by lightening up the mood. However, please do keep in mind that the Nico before µ's was not an idol, but everything she does, she still does with the confidence that she'll get there. It doesn't mean she's delusional, only ambitious.
Too ambitious, in fact, that she follows other idol groups closely, including the one that was forming at her own school. And in reality, off the big stage, Nico is someone with a Huge Ego. She's shamelessly pushy, demanding, and unapologetic, and if someone gets in her way she'll quite literally hunt them down to say what she wants to say, such as when she told µ's to disband immediately because they were a disgrace as idols! She's stalked their every move, even going as far as to sneakily eat their food while they discussed their group at a fast food restaurant. Girl's got guts. Looking at her from any angle, she's quite extreme... but that's only because being an idol is her absolute and she'll stop at nothing to achieve her own goal. Nico's definitely the type that won't back down on her dreams no matter how bleak her future looks. But while there is nothing wrong with ambition, her pride, matched with her inability to be honest with others makes it extremely hard for her to make friends and it's precisely her ambition to succeed which drove old members of her idol group away. And try as she might to reach other to new people, she's been alone since then. The only reason she's held on long enough for µ's to find her is because she's stubborn as heck, holding onto her position of the only member of the Idol Reach Club for over a year. Honestly, her ambition is a double edged sword.
Coming back to her inability to be honest, Nico clearly did want to join µ's but instead lashed out at them because she didn't know what to do otherwise. Stubborn to the bitter end, if it weren't for Honoka who saw through her true feelings, Nico probably would have stayed sad and alone until graduation. And while Nico might have not deserved the kindness she received from the other members, never assume Nico isn't grateful for them. It's hard for her to say "thank you" but when she coaches them on poses for the first time she tears up a little while telling them they're still terrible at them. As Nozomi said, the only reason she's criticizing them is because she's taken an interest in them. She's just envious but doesn't know how to say she wants to be part of the group. She has the ability to be a team player, but she needs to be eased there first!
Of course, just because the other members accepted her, it does not make her any less problematic. She has a tendency to lie in order to save face, even in the smallest things. It seems that she believes if anyone were to find out the truth about her situation, and that her life isn't as glamorous as she pretends it to be, they'll think less of her. This is why she pretended not to know how to cook, claiming that she also, like Maki, has a personal chef. This is also why she lied to her siblings about being the star of the school idol for years, calling µ's her backup dancers. While it seems bad, and is pretty bad, Nico does what she does because she doesn't want her siblings to become disappointed in her. Coming from a poor family, with 3 other siblings, she's the big sister any big sister would want to only be seem as dependable and amazing. So while she pretends to live the life of an idol that's made it, again she's not delusion, and actually knows plenty of practical skills at home including how to cook. She's a good big sister who loves her siblings very much, and while they do struggle financially, she does her best to make it so that it doesn't seem so. Likewise, she cares a lot for µ's, and the bonds that she has formed with them. So she may seem extremely self-centered, but she's very happy where she is with everyone. (In Nico's kinda sorta defense, she did tell her siblings she made it way back in her first year so it's not a lie she made up when µ's formed.. just a lie she had to keep up despite it).
As an extremely small side note, although Nico comes off strict and has super high standards, interestingly enough she's quite out of shape and is a member that has a tendency to slack off. When they go to the beach house for training, she would much rather play now and train later! This seems to clash with her goals of being an idol, but it's a pretty human thing to do.

Magic Weapon: A hand held mirrorthat i thought was a frying pan for the longest time, that is embedded with a small gemstone. Using mana, it allows Nico to shine a light from it's reflection, bright enough to blind opponents momentarily so she can run awaaaaay.

Her mother and siblings would be able to live their life as is, without having to face the troubles she's facing now. They were under attack, and even though she could feel her worries growing she's been through plenty of attacks before. ]
Jeez... when will they learn to quit? [ Muttering complaints to herself, she slowly inhales a breath of cold air to calm her nerves. She can't really complain about this after all, because it gave her a chance to perform. Having climbed this far into the rank, this little attack was nothing, and she takes over the job of overseeing the civilians with a smile, her voice 10x sweeter than it was before during her complaining. ]
Ah, don't worry everyone. Nico-nii is here now to put a smile in your heart, Nico! Since we're here, it would mean a looot to Nico if you will listen to Nico's song. [ A sweet pose to end her introduction and a mic in her hand... she soon begins to sings, dancing while making use of her illusion magic to create a beautiful stage that compliments her.
